Small Groups

Not a whole lot to report on.
We started a small group that’s been in the works for quite a while now. We met for the 2nd time this past Wednesday. Things are going pretty well, although I question how well I’m doing (as any person speaking usually does). These first 2 weeks we “played” get to know you type stuff because most of the people in the group were semi-new to the church. This next week though, we’ll be sharing our life stories. I’m pretty excited for this. I’m anxious to hear what/how God has been working in these peoples lives.

We finally got paid back for that whole eBay mess. Sure is nice to have that money back. I’m a little disappointed with how long it took, but just glad it’s back.

Amy and I started our 2008 Olympics fund this past week. A little later than we wanted but the money is already adding up. We’re really really excited for this trip and are looking forward to seeing you all there.

Followup-I heard from the guy I met at the restaurant. We chatted for a little bit and then I gave him Pete’s number. Can’t wait to hear what comes of this.

Divine Appointment

Amy and I were out on the town celebrating an early Valentine’s Day. After spending some time conquering the Ibex mountain we decided to go to one of our favorite eateries, BD’s Mongolian BBQ. Upon arrival we noticed a severely packed waiting room. We shoved our way to the hostess and put our name into the books. 40 minutes into our 1hr 15min wait, we noticed two people walk in and stand beside us. The lady standing next to Amy starts making small talk with Amy about how crowded this room is. Keep in mind this room is practically shoulder to shoulder, so it’s already awkward enough.

A couple minutes later another guy walks in front of us with one of those “Christian Shirts” and huge cross bling. The lady who was talking to us ask the guy about it. This got my attention a little. “Why are you asking about that guy’s shirt?” I thought to myself. Anyway, shortly after some more small talk this lady turns to us and ask if we go to church. After saying yes, and short conversations of the Holy Spirit, our church, and how she is visiting from LA our name was called to be seated. We said our “See ya laters’” and our “Good luck with (blank)” and followed the hostess to our table.

When we arrived at our table we see they’re wanting to seat us at a table for 6 people. Well that’s a little bit of overkill for 2 people, especially on a crowded night. Amy had an excellent idea of inviting the nice people we met in the lobby to dinner. After all they probably have another 40+mins of waiting ahead of them. I worked my way back up to the front lobby and to find the nice couple we met (it wasn’t hard since they really had no other place to stand) and said to them “Hey they sat us down at a table for 6, you guys are more than welcome to come and eat with us.” They accepted our invitation with no hesitation at all. And, come to find out they had three in their party not two, so we were still in good shape.

As we made our way back to the table we did the formal introductions. And it turns out they weren’t a “couple” per say. They were brother and sister who were with their mom. I’ll try to make a long story short by sticking to the details.

  • They are originally from the Reno, NV area.
  • All the siblings were into some pretty troubling stuff (drugs, witchcraft, etc..)
  • One night less than a year ago, the whole family (minus 1 sibling) were out at a restaurant. A man came up to the oldest brother and started prophesying over him. The prophet told him that within a year his whole family would be saved. The brother tried to reason with the prophet saying, “Listen buddy, you don’t know my family, we’re all into drugs, and I have a sister into witchcraft…” As if thats not cool enough, as I understand it, one of the younger sisters had demons cast out of her right there in the restaurant. Needless to say, it made believers out of practically everyone in the restaurant.
  • They were all baptised in the Holy Spirit.
  • The Mom moved to Lee’s Summit recently and now the second oldest son is living with her.
  • The sister who had the demons cast out of her moved to Sparks, NV last week. (Pete this is why I texted you last night)

Why I think this experience was so cool:

It was by no means coincidence that they kept talking to us in the lobby. It was no coincidence that they asked us about our church life and how Holy Spirit driven our church is. It is no coincidence that we were seated at a table for 6 in a busy restaurant. It is no coincidence that Amy brought up the idea of sharing a table. It is no coincidence that I have been in the book of Acts this past week (which deals a lot with being baptised in the Holy Spirit) and then meeting 3 people who were recently baptised. It is no coincidence their sister recently moved to Sparks, NV and is in need of guidance and a good church. It is no coincidence that I know a youth pastor in Sparks, NV (I love ya’ Pete). And, it is no coincidence that we met these people, got to pray with these people, and shared our lives with these people.

What an amazing God who guides all who listen.

P.S. I know my grammar is bad and I have a hard time with my tenses, so please see through that.

Weekend Project

I installed a “Poo Fan” in our bathroom this weekend. Overall I’m happy with how it turned out. It was definently a lot less fun than I anticipated. Being that our bathroom is located against an outside wall, and the very nature of roofs being slanted as the outside wall approaches, made it very difficult to install. I could think of worse situations though. One thing that kind of sucked is that the fiberglass insulation was “blown” so it wasn’t in nice little pink rolls like I expected. So as you probably guess I was practically covered in the stuff…and now I’m all itchy.

I guess that’s it.
